Don't Blink

My tiny newborn......wasn't this just yesterday??

Blowing out the candles on his third birthday..third? Are you kidding me?

The "Fish" cake. I let Austin pick what he wanted on his cake this year, plastic overload. This is all he wanted and talked about for days.

He loved his presents!

I just can not believe my little boy is 3. The Kenny Chesney song couldn't be more accurate. Don't blink. I swear just yesterday he was still in diapers......wait he still is in diapers (any advice on that one?) , OK that he was still drinking formula, and we were enticing him to roll over and crawl. How time flies Now he is always running, usually away from me. He keeps me some what in shape. Instead of cooing, he is giving me goo, instead of decorating his room in cute little bugs, he is handing me handfuls of real not so cute bugs.
I absolutely love this little boy, and until I had him, I had no idea there was a capacity that big for love. HAPPY BIRTHDAY my BIG boy! WE LOVE YOU!

So, we had a heck of a time getting Alex to use the toilet. He knew what it was, he hated his diaper, and didn't like being "wiped" (as he called it).

The biggest problem for him (looking back) was the size of the toilet. It was just really hard for him. The potty chair was too small (because he's a big kid) and the toilet was too big.

We had Emily's Mom come out for a week, and she worked with him every moment. He really needed the attention from someone (not his mom or dad) that he trusted, but also from someone he could perform for (the kid is a huge ham!). Who better than grandma; familiar enough to help and distant enough to be a new audience.

So, what he finally did that made him successful was climbed on the toilet backwards facing the bowl. It gave him something to hold onto and it was 'new' and 'his way'. I didn't care how he did it, I was just excited to not have to buy size 5 diapers.

Anyway. Good luck with all of that. 3 is awesome and comes with it's own surprises. I was thrown for a loop when we enrolled him in pre-school. It's true; don't blink.

Oh how wonderful to have a third birthday! It is such a great occasion to celebrate the years since birth! And don't worry, Taylor is still very content in his diaper as well!!! What a great post with such happy memories.
