Papershredders and fingers dont mix

WARNING!!! Gruesome pictures below!

Stitches on the top.
What a finger looks like that has been sewn together.

All wrapped up.

The pants he had on when the madness happened.

Sunday night was quite the eventful night for us. I had borrowed a paper shredder from my mom and dad, to start shredding a whole bin full of 9 years of papers. Austin was of coarse very interested in what I was doing, because how cool is it to watch the paper get sucked in and shredded up? I had told him over 100 times what would happen if he put his fingers by the blades, but you know how kids are. I was sitting right by him, looked away for 2 seconds and he started screaming. You know that horrifying kind of scream? Makes your blood curl? Once I realized what was going on I turned off the shredder and started screaming with Austin. Yep, they say that the parents are supposed to stay strong so the kids don't freak out, well I did not do well in that department. Ryan ran downstairs and we proceeded to try to get the stupid thing off his finger, but it was totally stuck. We ended up having to pull his finger out, and once I saw what his finger looked like I almost passed out, threw up, started shaking and crying. The whole time Austin just kept telling me that he was ok. We rushed him the the ER and lots of stitches later he came home. His finger is more stitches then finger. It took his fingernail all the way off.
I held him on the couch and was so grateful that he was ok. I told him that I wished that had happened to me, not him, and he told me that he didn't want me to get hurt, and anyway who would carry me? So to make a long story a little shorter, Ryan and I have taken this way harder then our little trooper. He is doing great, and just wishes it would hurry up and heal. All I do all day is say,"WATCH YOUR FINGER!!!" He just wants to play. If it was me that had this horrible cut I would still be in bed, and complaining. What a brave little guy!!!
If you have a papershredder in your home, I would suggest throwing it far, far away.

Reading this post made me cringe and hurt. I fear I might have had your same reaction. I think it is so adorable how he was comforting you. He is a strong little guy.
